About WP Tech Guru®

WP Tech Guru® began as Frank’s Designs in 1994. In the beginning, my focus was purely graphic design. In 1997, I built my first website and offered web design too. In 2008 the tagline “Empowered Marketing” was added and in 2016 Empowered Marketing became an LLC and the official brand. The same year, WP Tech Guru (aka WPTechGuru) became a brand for my WordPress maintenance and tech support services. In 2025, I decided to do business as WP Tech Guru to really concentrate on supporting WordPress clients with web design and WordPress Maintenance Plans.

Today WP Tech Guru, while small, provides the same services as larger agencies at competitive prices and delivers quality and impeccable customer service. I work hard to help small businesses meet their goals with the support of a small team: my wife and co-owner Anna Gomez, assistant Suzanne Villard, and copywriter Emily Crawford.

Frank Gómez, the WP Tech Guru, WordPress Expert and Graphic Designer

I have always been a tinkerer. I was an active and curious child who wanted to understand how things work. My mother was happy when nap time came each day and sad when I eventually outgrew naps. One day, to keep me occupied, she placed a transistor radio in the crib with me. She thought the knobs and buttons would entertain me for a while. When the room became quiet, she assumed I’d dropped off and she happily enjoyed some “me time.” When she went to wake me from my nap, she found me holding a completely deconstructed radio, wires springing out and parts all over the mattress. My father has always said this was a sign of things to come. Ever since, I’ve tinkered to see how things work. Understanding how things work leads to Technical Excellence.

After starting an engineering job in my 20’s, I realized that I liked design. I taught myself AutoCad and started doing engineering drawings for a naval architecture firm. I did side work as an amateur graphic designer. Within a few years I started building websites and learning more about graphic design and marketing.

Frank Gómez, Owner of WP Tech Guru

In 2019, I made a commitment to build only accessible websites, meaning those that comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act. I’ve also performed accessibility remediations on many websites.  Another passion is Sustainable Web Design and using best practices, both of which have served my clients well by reducing energy consumption and making their websites blazing fast.

In my free time I enjoy martial arts, photography and independent filmmaking.

Community Involvement

I’ve been volunteering for community projects my entire adult life. In North Georgia, I supported Habitat for Humanity and the Rotary Club of Jasper, a service organization. I also served on the board of CORE, which provides vocational training for people with disabilities, from 2023 – 2024.

Commitment to Sustainability

I am committed to reducing consumption, using renewable energy, and conserving resources.

  • Web Design: By designing sustainable websites, using green web hosting and using advanced techniques minimize the carbon footprint of every website. When I take on a website designed by another party, I take the time to optimize the website, reducing image sizes, etc., to make the website faster and more efficient.
  • Web Hosting: My hosting is centrally based in a state of the art data center which means energy efficiency.
  • Graphic Design: I use vector graphics whenever possible. This also translates to web design because I use small file formats such as SVG on my websites where possible.
  • Paper Reduction: I avoid printing whenever possible. I store data electronically whenever possible.
  • Printing: When I print things for clients, I use paper from sustainably managed forests which clean the air, control erosion, and provide US jobs. The inks used for printing are environmentally friendly with no VOCs. I purchase printed items for my own use and for resale from a sustainable, family-owned printing company in the United States.
  • Conservation of Energy: I use energy efficient lighting and computers. My HVAC system is very energy efficient and my attic has extra insulation.
  • Waste Reduction: I purchase high quality products so they last as long as possible. I buy products with recycled content and avoid buying low quality products that need to be replaced. My office chairs are sustainable and are such high quality that they have lasted over a decade and are expected to last much longer.
  • Recycling: I recycle everything I possibly can, including paper, bottles & cans, and plastic.
  • Cleaning Products: I use biodegradable and natural products such as Simple Green and Vinegar for cleaning.
